#FriendsofCE: Priya York

On a warm summer's day in 2021, we met with the wonderful Priya York, a customer of CE who has an incredible drive for life, plus a very infectious smile. Founder of Ramola London jewellery, Priya talks to us about what she's learnt during the pandemic, and what success looks like to her.

I'm from Croydon and spent my lockdown in my flat, with no garden or outdoor space. I learnt that I love having purpose, I love my job and I love my family and friends. I also learnt that I would love a garden to host my big family every summer. During the pandemic, I learnt that your support network is the most valuable thing you can have. Whether it’s your family, your friends or whoever, appreciate them and show that you appreciate them.

I first saw Meghan Markle carrying The Bloomsbury. After researching Charlotte Elizabeth, it felt like a brand that was run by real people who loved what they do. I also loved the fact that it was a woman owned brand, with a designer that didn’t shy away from being the face of the brand. I own The Chestnut Bloomsbury; it was a Christmas 2020 gift from my lovely boyfriend, such an amazing gift to receive after a shocking 2020!

I wear my Chestnut Bloomsbury without the shoulder strap, and carry it like a little bag that fits the essentials. Usually I keep my iphone, lipstick, hand sanistiser, headphones, sunglasses case and card wallet inside.

My favourite adventures with my Bloomsbury so far? Summer Covid walks! Haha! I hope to be able to wear it out much more as we return to normality. My favourite parts of the day are getting sent pictures of my cats from my boyfriend who is working from home. My happy place? Greece. I could quite happily live out my days in Greece.

The #FriendsofCE shoot day was absolutely incredible. I’ve never felt more comfortable. I honestly felt so relaxed it was like I was with my friends just having a joke around. I felt confident and not false confidence either, it was real confidence. I’m really excited to see how the photos turn out. An incredible feeling to be ‘modelling’ for brand that I love.

As a Jewellery Designer seeing people I’ve never met before wear my jewellery with pride gives me the biggest sense of fulfilment. A sense of achievement to me, makes me feel fulfilled. Just someone loving something you’ve created is an amazing feeling. I'm inspired by people loving what they do.  My dream is to be successful and happy. To live a life I can be proud of. Also, maybe teach my cats to be on a leash so I can take them on holidays!

I believe the world needs more kindness, but also reality. Ignorance isn’t always bliss, there are so many things happening in the world. It’s truly your own responsibility to gain knowledge and to help where you can. I’d love to see more diversity in every industry. Representation matters.

What do I wish I'd known when I was young? Honest answer, I wish I had known that I wasn’t fat. I wasn’t big boned. I wasn’t any of those things. I was just a growing young girl who wished she was kinder to herself.

A quote I live by: “You can’t take paracetamol for someone else’s headache”.
